Meet Daniel, enjoying a beautiful, sunlit day on the sprawling 22-acre campus of Ottawa Friendship House. Daniel is more than just a visitor; he's a cherished member of the Friendship House family.

With a history spanning over half a century, Ottawa Friendship House has been dedicated to providing support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, much like Daniel. Ottawa Friendship House's goal is to create a nurturing, inclusive community where individuals like Daniel can thrive and embrace life's beauty under the sun.

The Developmental Training Center offers a day program that assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in achieving new goals, interacting with others, and enjoying meaningful activities. Staff develops an Individualized Service Plan (ISP) and gets to know a client’s interests, hobbies and personality, as well as vocational interests and goals.

Ottawa Friendship House has 4 semi-independent homes located in LaSalle County. The semi-independent homes are suited for people who are able to live independently and do not need 24 hour care. However, these individuals still benefit from supports through Friendship House. The residents who live in the semi-independent homes have their own lease. The main goal of the semi-independent residential program is to support the people we serve in ways that allow them to achieve their goals and direct their own lives.

Everyone is learning what it is like living on their own but have supports from our dedicated staff daily to ensure safe, responsible, semi-independent living. This program allows individuals to learn, grow and show independence and more self-sufficiency while working and building a life.
