A Guide to Local Support Options (Including Contact Information)
Anxiety is something many of us experience—from the stress of daily life to more persistent feelings that won’t seem to go away. While occasional anxiety is a natural response to challenges, ongoing anxiety can interfere with our health, relationships, and overall well-being. The good news is that help is available—and you don’t have to manage it alone.
What Is Anxiety?
According to the American Psychological Association, Anxiety is a feeling of worry and tension that can cause physical symptoms like high blood pressure. It's different from fear, which is a response to a specific threat. Anxiety is more about worrying about things that might happen in the future, while fear is about reacting to something happening right now.
Simple, Everyday Ways to Manage Anxiety
Here are some techniques that can help you manage anxiety on your own:
Try Deep Breathing: Breathe in slowly for 4 seconds, hold your breath for 4 seconds, and exhale.
Move Your Body: Even a 15-minute walk outdoors can reduce stress hormones and improve your mood.
Create a "Worry Time:" Set aside 10 minutes a day to write down your worries. Outside of that time, give yourself permission to focus on other things.
Limit News and Social Media: Too much screen time—especially news or comparison-based content—can fuel anxious thoughts.
Prioritize Sleep and Nutrition A tired body and brain are more prone to anxiety. Try sticking to a routine sleep schedule and fueling yourself with whole foods.
Try Journaling Writing your thoughts down can help you better understand your triggers and patterns.
When to Reach Out For Help
If anxiety is starting to interfere with your job, relationships, or daily tasks—or if it’s not improving with self-care—it’s time to consider professional support.
